Our latest wireless and true wireless headphone models have successfully completed the full compliance assessment process under EN 18031-2:2024 — the European harmonized standard focused on personal data and privacy protection for radio equipment.
The official certificate is now in the final issuance stage and will be formally released very shortly.
What is EN 18031-2 and why does it matter?
As part of the Radio Equipment Directive (RED 2014/53/EU) and its Cybersecurity Delegated Act (EU) 2022/30, the European Union introduced mandatory cybersecurity requirements for many categories of radio equipment effective August 1, 2025.
Among the three key essential requirements:
- Article 3.3(d) – protection of the network (EN 18031-1)
- Article 3.3(e) – protection of personal data and privacy of users (EN 18031-2)
- Article 3.3(f) – protection against fraud (EN 18031-3)
EN 18031-2:2024 specifically addresses radio equipment that processes personal data, traffic data or location data — including smart headphones and earbuds that feature voice assistants, health & activity tracking, location-based services, cloud connectivity, or any form of internet communication.
The standard sets rigorous technical requirements in areas such as:
- Strong access control mechanisms
- Secure handling and storage of personal data
- Appropriate encryption strength
- Secure software update processes
- Effective data deletion when requested by the user
- Security event logging
- Clear user notifications related to privacy and security
- Special protections where products may be used by children
By achieving full compliance with EN 18031-2, our wireless headphones meet — and in many aspects exceed — the current European legal baseline for privacy-by-design and data protection in connected audio products.
